Burundi: a truth commission at last?

Fourteen years after the Arusha peace agreements, which called for a special tribunal and a truth commission in Burundi, the law creating a Truth and Reconciliation Commission was promulgated on 15 May. 

Ahead of next year’s presidential election, president Pierre Nkurunziza has renewed his promise [IJT-151IJT 156] to establish a truth commission in a country locked in one of its worst political crises, after his contested presidential reelection in June 2010.
